"School Guard Appreciation Day"

May 1, 2002

WHEREAS: School Crossing Guards must possess a deep sense of responsibility, a lot of common sense, good rapport with children and the fortitude that is necessary to brave the elements; and
WHEREAS: we are proud of our School Crossing Guards and highly commend them for their continued dedication and commitment to the safety of our school children; and
WHEREAS: we congratulate this year's Long Service Awards recipients, and owe a great debt of appreciation and our gratitude to all School Crossing Guards for their valuable service to the community.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2002 as "School Guard Appreciation Day" to recognize and thank all School Crossing Guards for the significant contribution they make to the safety and well-being of our school children.
