"Seniors' Jubilee Week"
August 19 to 23, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
the arts are a unifying force in our city. They add to the cultural and social development of our communities and enrich our quality of life; and |
| WHEREAS: |
there is no national or local designation that honours the valuable resource and legacy that is our elderly. The Seniors' Jubilee, the largest annual celebration of its kind in Canada, showcases over 1,300 talented performers aged 55 and over; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this variety show extravaganza began in 1989 as a two-day event and has grown into a week-long celebration at the prestigious Roy Thomson Hall. Talented seniors are encouraged to share their joy of singing, dancing, music and laughter with audiences who come from across Ontario to attend this inspirational event; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this year marks the 14th anniversary of the Jubilee's commitment to recognize and validate the talents of seniors who continue to prove that age is no barrier to accomplishment. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim August 19 to 23, 2002 as "Seniors' Jubilee Week" to recognize the outstanding contributions made to this valuable and unique event by the performers, organizers, volunteers, attendees and sponsors. |
