"Toronto Sport Day"
October 3, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto Sport Day has been designated on October 3rd, 2002, to raise awareness of the barriers that prevent our youth from participating in sport activities and the implications of youth complacency; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto in partnership with the Toronto Sport Council, Sport Alliance of Ontario and over 82 provincial sport and recreational organizations work together to encourage youth to participate in sports; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto Sport Day promotes a healthy active lifestyle for our youth through the introduction of new and fun sport activities including lacrosse, basketball, soccer, gymnastics and other activities that they are unable to access by traditional means; and |
| WHEREAS: |
participation in sports is much more than a physical workout; it's a positive character builder that instills teamwork, discipline, dedication and a sense of pride and accomplishment. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 3, 2002 as "Toronto Sport Day" and encourage everyone to participate in sports and fundraising events that will benefit KidSport Ontario programs. |
