"Turkey Day"
November 24, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
the holiday season is the time of year when we count our blessings. Among the many things we are most thankful for, is that we live in the greatest and most caring city in the world and know we can count on the wonderful people of Toronto to help our neighbours in need; and |
| WHEREAS: |
for the past 15 years, Toronto's Goodwill Ambassador and legendary entrepreneur Ed Mirvish and the Mirvish family have shared the true meaning of the holidays by giving free turkeys and Christmas cake. For many families and individuals, this tremendous charitable gesture is the only way they will be able to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner at Christmas time; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Ed Mirvish is a great humanitarian who is well-known and well-loved by the people of Toronto for his tremendous generosity. In turn, he shows his genuine love for our city and our people through his support and outstanding contributions to the arts, the needy and young people in our community; and |
| WHEREAS: |
during this very special time of year it is important for us to recognize the happiness and satisfaction that is derived from all acts of kindness, both large and small, that help to make a difference in the lives of many people in our large and diverse city. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 24, 2002 as "Turkey Day" in the City of Toronto, and extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Ed Mirvish and his family for continuing this extremely generous holiday tradition. |
