"YMCA World Peace Week"
November 17 to 23, 2002
| WHEREAS: |
the YMCA is an exceptional charitable organization that offers opportunities for personal growth through participation and service to the community; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the YMCA is a leader in enhancing civil society where people within our large and culturally diverse community are respectful and supportive of one another; and |
| WHEREAS: |
each year during World Peace Week, the YMCA awards peace medallion to individuals or groups who have worked without special resources to improve and enrich the quality of life for people in our communities and around the world; and |
| WHEREAS: |
to celebrate this week, the YMCA has planned a variety of events and activities, including the wearing of blue and white Peace Ribbons as a symbol of support for peace. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 17 to 23, 2002 as "YMCA World Peace Week" in the City of Toronto to recognize the tremendous contribution YMCA members, volunteers and staff make to the success, vitality and well-being of our unique city. |
