WHEREAS the Village of Highland Creek is the site of one of the earliest settlements in our Scarborough community, dating back to the 1790's.
The Village remains the only area still identifiable as a village and evidence of historical significance include N. J. Morrish General Store, Miller Lash/McLean Estate and the third High Creek Public School located on Military Trail, a route leading from Toronto to Kingston.
Residents of the area are proud of the Village, and every year since 1986 they have gathered together with family, friends and neighbours to celebrate and mark its existence.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim June 20, 2009 as "Highland Creek Heritage Day". Everyone is encouraged to celebrate this historic occasion with our Highland Creek community and enjoy this year's parade and festival.
