WHEREAS Hospice Palliative Care Week is focused on raising awareness and recognizing that everyone should have access to quality end-of-life care.

The Toronto Central Palliative Care Network is comprised of over thirty member organizations that provide direct and indirect hospice palliative care services to those individuals living within the Toronto region.

Member organizations collectively reflect the entire hospice palliative care continuum, from patients who are dying but living within their communities to those who are dying in hospitals and residential hospices.

The Toronto Central Palliative Care Network, along with its partners, seek to ensure that hospice palliative care for patients and their families is integrated and of high quality and believes that this can be achieved through commitment, awareness and partnerships.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim May 3 - 9, 2009 as "Hospice Palliative Care Week."
