Appointments process
Appointments process
The nominating panel recommends candidates to Council or the body designated by Council to make the appointment.
Alternates may be identified for first consideration when vacancies occur during the term.
The names of nominees and alternates are submitted to Council or its designated appointing body under confidential cover.
The appointees' names, plus a short biography are made public once a final decision is made.
Alternates' names remain confidential except to the alternates themselves.
If you are not selected, you are encouraged to apply again for other board opportunities that may come up during the current term. These will be advertised on the Public Appointments current opportunties page.
Board orientation
If you are appointed, you are expected to attend briefing session(s) arranged by board and City staff to provide an initial orientation on the operation of the board and City expectations.
Topics will address the board's mandate and current issues, as well as the board's relationship to the City, Code of Conduct and City policies and objectives for the board including the City's objective of removing barriers to accessing services in a diverse community.
In certain cases, new appointees may be required to attend mandatory training (e.g., for quasi-judicial bodies, such as the Toronto Licensing Tribunal and the Committee of Adjustment).
