Project Plan
Phase One
A consultant has been hired to conduct a Sign Study for the City. Over the next several months background material such as City policies, By-laws, reports, studies, etc. will be reviewed. City Councillors and staff will also be interviewed, and various areas of the City will be visited.
This is in preparation for the four public consultation sessions which will be held throughout the month of September.
Public Consultation Sessions - 7:00 pm:
- September 10, 2008 - Etobicoke Civic Centre
- September 18, 2008 - North York Civic Centre
- September 24, 2008 - Scarborough Civic Centre
- September 25, 2008 - Toronto City Hall
Following the public consultation sessions, the information will be reviewed and it is expected the first report will presented to the Planning and Growth Management Committee and Council in November 2008.
Special Meeting of Planning and Growth Management Committee
A special meeting of the Planning and Growth Management Committee was held on December 8, 2008. All members of Council and the Mayor were invited to attend. Communications and submissions were received and deputations from the public and from identified stakeholders were made to the Committee members. The agenda, decisions and minutes of the special meeting are available here. Copies of the communications are available by contacting the City Clerk's office or by e-mail to: pgmc@toronto.ca.
Phase Two
Following the presentation to the Planning and Growth Management Committee, the Project Team will present the ideas from the Phase One Report along with Committee's comments to a second series of four Public Consultation Sessions to be held throughout the month of January, 2009.
Advertisements in the local newspapers will notify the public of upcoming Public Consultation Sessions, as noted below. All Public Consultation Sessions will share the same content, you need only attend one. As well, Translation Services, including American Sign Language are available upon request. Translator requests must be placed at least two weeks prior to the selected meeting date.

Upon completion of the second round of consultation sessions, the information received will be used to develop an Interim Report to be presented once again to the Planning and Growth Management Committee in the spring.
We anticipate the new Sign By-law being presented to Council in the summer of 2009.
Interim Report to Planning and Growth Management Committee
At it's meeting held on April 14, 2009, the Planning and Growth Management Committee of City Council Considered the Second Interim Report of the New Sign By-law. Deputations were made and other members of Toronto City Council from outside the Planning and Growth Management Committee were in attendance. The Decision Document of the meeting is available here.
