Sign By-law Unit Introduction

The Toronto Sign By-law Unit is responsible for the issuance and inspection of sign permits and carries out pro-active by-law enforcement for permanent signs on private property. The unit is also responsible for the administration and annual collection of the Third Party Sign Tax (TPST)

Projected Advertising and Identification Signs Pilot Study

The Sign Bylaw Unit is proposing to conduct a study into Projected Image Signs at 5-10 locations across the city for the purposes of developing regulations for these sign types. A public consultation session was held on January 23rd and a second consultation session will be held on February 2nd at 6:30pm in Committee Room 1 at City Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Fastrack for Sign Permits

We are happy to introduce the latest service enhancement from the City of Toronto Sign By-law Unit: Fastrack for Sign Permits . This program will allow applicants for First Party Signs to obtain the required Sign and Building Permits for certain sign installations on an expedited basis. Click here for more details

Please be advised that as of September 7th, all Sign Permit, PPR, Variance and Sign By-law Amendment applications will be taken in at the Sign By-law Unit Counter at the Ground Floor, East Tower of Toronto City Hall. Please call 416-392-8000 for further information.

Electronic Submissions:

As of October 4th, the Toronto Sign By-law Unit will begin accepting applications for sign permits, PPRs, sign by-law amendments and sign variances by e-mail. Click here for more details
