Welcome to the City of Toronto Special Events Planning Guide!

This guide is produced by the Special Events, Event Support Unit, a unit of the City of Toronto Economic Development and Culture Division, in collaboration with city divisions and agencies that support and provide permits to Special Events.

While every effort has been made to make this guide as complete as possible, due to the unique nature of special events, it may not cover every possible question or area.

For additional advice and guidance planning a special event and your responsibilities as the Event Organizer, we encourage you to utilize the staff listed within the various topic areas or within the Event Support Unit.

Planning your event

As the Event Organizer, you are responsible for the planning and operation of your – or your group's – Special Event or Festival. This "one-stop" Special Event Planning Guide has been specially developed by the City of Toronto Event Support Unit to allow you to simplify the planning of your special event.

Whatever type of Event or Festival you or your community association is planning, getting organized will lessen your stress, avoid last minute surprises and make the whole experience more manageable for you.

We know planning an event, large or small, is detail-oriented work. However, we know that it's the hard work and efforts of the City's individuals, neighbourhoods and groups which make Toronto a world-class community to live, work and visit. We appreciate all the time and energy invested by Event Organizers and supporters to make our City more enjoyable for everyone – Thank You!
