Friday, January 29
Opening Night Celebration!
The 2010 edition of Toronto’s WinterCity Festival opens with an evening of fire, feasting and performance in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Dragon lion dancers wind their way beneath hundreds of red paper lanterns. Experience the premiere of Time Is… by Compagnie Les Passagers, a spectacular aerial dance performance inspired by contemporary and traditional Chinese culture. The celebration culminates with the Angel of the Apocalypse fire performance by the Flaming Lotus Girls, and a stunning fireworks finale!
Saturday, January 30
In an homage to Carnaval du Paris, fire dancers, street theatre performers and artists in elaborate masks and costumes parade and perform throughout Nathan Phillips Square while DJ TK spins a Paris club vibe. Don’t miss iconic Toronto street performer Peter Jarvis in The Cube. Experience the premiere of Cosmogonia by Compagnie Les Passagers, a spectacular aerial dance performance inspired by the book of Genesis. The celebration culminates with the Angel of the Apocalypse fire performance by the Flaming Lotus Girls.
Sunday, January 31
Enjoy an afternoon of traditional winter carnival games, circus acts, figure skating performances and beaver tails. Join the band with the Zoosse-Mobile, a humongous interactive percussion instrument. The celebration continues with the Angels of the Apocalyse fire performance by the Flaming Lotus Girls. Don’t miss the premiere of Glacialis, a musical experience using instruments built out of ice. Experience cosmic energy as the book of Genesis is performed on a massive vertical stage by Compagnie Les Passagers.
February 1 – 4
6 – 10 pm
Head to the Nathan Phillips Square outdoor skating rink for Tim Hortons Ice Breakers with some of Toronto’s hottest DJs. And enjoy Angel of the Apocalypse, a unique fire installation by the Flaming Lotus Girls.

Friday, February 5
Nathan Phillips Square is transformed into a festival of colour inspired by South Asian Holi traditions – bonfire, coloured powders, Dhol drumming and Punjabi Bhangra dance. DJ Zahra & the Funkasia Crew spin Bollywood tunes, Indo hip hop remixes, Goa trance tracks and hard core Soca jams. Compagnie Les Passagers brings the Indian movie industry to life in Namastey. The evening culminates with the Angel of the Apocalypse fire performance by the Flaming Lotus Girls.
Saturday, February 6
The sounds of Soca, Reggae and Dance Hall fill the air at this tribute to Carnaval, the world’s most lavish and famous festival. Award-winning mas band Tribal Knights bring their 2009 Carnaval King & Queen to Nathan Phillips Square along with the Afro-Brazilian sounds of the percussion group Maracatu Nunca Antes, stilt dancers and more. Compagnie Les Passagers brings the book of Genesis to life in Cosmogonia. The celebration culminates with the Angel of the Apocalypse fire performance by the Flaming Lotus Girls.
Sunday, February 7
Explore Canada’s French, Aboriginal and Metis Heritage as fiddling, step dancing, storytelling and traditional Aboriginal dance fill Nathan Phillips Square. Metis storyteller John Huston and Ojibway storyteller Aaron Bell invite you inside a 27 foot high Tipi, while outside Voyageur games such as tug-of-war and leg wrestling are demonstrated. Watch carvers create ice sculptures inspired by gods and goddesses in Mythical Ice. The celebration culminates with the Angel of the Apocalypse fire performance by theFlaming Lotus Girls.
The WOW! Series is part of Toronto's WinterCity Festival presented by RBC. A celebration of culture, creativity and cuisine, WinterCity is three festivals in one: the WOW!
