The Final Report - Strategic Plan for the Scarborough RT has now been completed and was presented at the August 30, 2006 TTC Commission Meeting.

The existing Scarborough RT trains need to be retired over the next 7 to 10 years and the TTC does not have sufficient trains to meet current demand. To address these concerns, the Toronto Transit Commission and the City of Toronto began a strategic planning study on the future of the Scarborough RT in September of 2005. The study was tasked with addressing vehicle and network issues including options for replacing the current vehicles or converting the line to bus, streetcar/light rail (LRT) or subway service.

An initial public meeting was held on November 10, 2005 to discuss, and get input from the public on, key issues, possible strategic alternatives, evaluation criteria and the proposed study work program. There was great turn-out and participation by the public and elected representatives of all levels of government. Further input on these matters was received through written correspondence and additional meetings with the Scarborough business community and local post-secondary educational institutions.

Following completion of the technical analyses of the various alternatives, a second public meeting, to present the findings, was held on April 24, 2006. This meeting was also well attended by the public and elected representatives. Feedback from this meeting, and additional written correspondence, was then used to refine the technical analyses and develop recommendations.
