Infrastructure Stimulus Fund

Canada's federal, provincial and municipal governments have committed public resources to protect and create jobs during the recession and to help strengthen our communities economically and environmentally. Working together, Canada's governments are creating tens of thousands of jobs across the country, while helping to provide efficient transit, safe drinking water, modern wastewater treatment and reliable roads and bridges.

With committed funding from the federal and provincial governments, the City will be implementing more than 600 capital projects. An acceleration of the City's capital program over the next two years means that more than 6600 jobs will be created at a time when they're needed most. These funds will be used in public infrastructure projects across the city and will work to improve the lives of Torontonians.

Modern, efficient and reliable infrastructure supports commerce, creates employment opportunities and attracts skilled knowledge workers - boosting our cities' growth and competitiveness.

Infrastructure Stimulus Fund

With the help of the federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (ISF), the City of Toronto will move forward on more than 500 infrastructure projects. A combined Canada-Toronto investment of more than $550 million under the ISF, representing a one-third federal, two-thirds city commitment, will create local jobs and improve infrastructure that is a priority for Torontonians. Funding is available for two years for projects that will be built by Spring 2011. The federal government has provided the City of Toronto with advance funding of up to 30 per cent of year one funding under this program.

All three orders of government are contributing funds to over 100 capital projects in Toronto and creating jobs through upgrades and improvements to recreational infrastructure.

Beyond economic stimulus and job creation, renewing, rehabilitating and modernizing our recreational infrastructure has the added benefit of encouraging higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.
