More Bang for the Buck: Funder and Investor Collaborations to Advance Canadian Climate Solutions
At this year's Dan Leckie Forum, representatives from foundations, environmental non-government organizations and investment firms considered how increased collaboration could facilitate faster development of Canadian climate solutions.
The invited participants will look at:
- How could collaborations among groups of philanthropic funders and between funders and investors help advance climate solutions?
- What would these collaborations look like? How could they be structured and managed?
- What potential benefits could these collaborations have for funders, investors, entrepreneurs and NGOs?
- What obstacles might need to be overcome to facilitate collaboration of this type?
- What practical next steps could be undertaken to bring together philanthropic and investor interests around shared goals?
The group heard from:
Merran Smith, Director of the Tides Canada Energy Initiative, a project bringing together diverse stakeholders to build support for a bold, scientifically relevant vision of a low-carbon future for Canada.
Ralph Torrie, a North American specialist in emission quantification and low-carbon energy strategy and currently Managing Director of the Trottier Energy Futures Project.
Michael Northrop, Director of the Sustainable Development Program of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in New York City, who has taken part in multiple funder collaborations on energy, climate, forest and marine issues.
Guy Burry, Chairman of the Board of Tenth Power Technology Corporation and a founding member of Toronto Atmospheric Fund's Investment Committee which guides the Fund's impact investments.
