The Training Centre of Municipal Licensing & Standards is located at 1530 Markham Road (just north of Highway 401) in the east end of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The Training Centre is currently comprised of the Manager, a Co-ordinator of Training and Development, fifteen professional trainers, and three support staff.
A total of seven courses are administered by the Training Centre and nearly 5,000 taxicab drivers are trained annually. This represents North America's largest taxicab training inititaive.
Courses include: The Effective Taxicab Driver Training Program --an intense and skill-focused 17-day course designed to prepare individuals to meet the practical challenges of taxicab driving in the City of Toronto.
The Taxicab Driver Refresher Course --currently a 3-day course providing drivers with an opportunity to reflect and expand on their current skill set and knowledge.
The Accessible Taxicab Driver/Owner Course --a 5-day course geared to the experienced
driver who wishes to own/drive an Accessible taxicab. The program's aim is to help expand the goal of greater and more convenient accessibility to people with disabilities throughout the community.
The Ambassador Taxicab Training Course --a 40 half-day session course for experienced drivers who wish to become Ambassador Taxicab Owners. Our over-reaching goal is to continue to set the standard of professionalism and innovation in the industry. (Not presently being offered)
In addition to meeting the City of Toronto's taxicab training needs, the Training Centre is actively involved in designing and developing a wide variety of taxicab training solutions for municipalities throughout Canada and beyond.
