Bounce back to fast forward: a strategy for Toronto's screen-arts industry
It took 40 years of entrepreneurial effort and good public policy to build the Toronto screen-arts industry. By 2000 Toronto was English Canada's acknowledged centre of excellence pumping more than $1 billion annually into the local, provincial and national economy.
The highly integrated industry comprises an extensive range of film-related services and expertise in new media, gaming, technology and communications. However after 2003 the industry was in crisis.
If we do it right, Toronto not Los Angeles, New York or London will be the leading centre of the digital age. Once again our streets will be enlivened by film trailers and crews. Creative entrepreneurs and talented people will come to our city and productions made by Canadians will be seen locally and around the world.
