* * Toronto’s Urban Forest – For now and forever *
* *

Imagine looking at Toronto from an airplane. The green that you see, is called the tree canopy. Toronto's canopy covers approximately 20% of the city. Our challenge is to increase the amount of tree canopy to 30% - 40%, even as the population of the City is increasing.

By maintaining a healthy, diverse, sustainable urban forest today, we are protecting and building upon a solid natural foundation that will provide long-term environmental, social and economic benefits. These benefits include improved air and water quality, temperature moderation, neighbourhood identity, energy savings and increased real estate value.
