Dr. David Suzuki

Speakers
Dr. David Suzuki was the keynote speaker for the Opening Plenary of Walk21 Toronto 2007.

Dr. Suzuki is an award-winning scientist, environmentalist, and broadcaster recognized around the world for his outstanding work. He is the Chair of the David Suzuki Foundation, which works to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us.

Monday October 1st:
 
  • A variety of half and full day pre-conference workshops on specialized topics.
  • Join us at the Walk21 Toronto 2007 Opening Reception, hosted in the Rotunda of City Hall. Mayor David Miller will be on hand to welcome guests.
  • The registration table will be open from noon onwards at Metro Hall for all arriving delegates to pick up their conference packages.

"Assessing where we are now"
 
  • The conference begins on Tuesday morning with our Opening Plenary session at The Design Exchange. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. David Suzuki.
  • The afternoon will feature a special poster session where all delegates will gather in the Rotunda at Metro Hall to meet and mingle with our poster presenters.
  • The evening will feature a film night hosted by a local organization, the Toronto Public Space Committee.

"The journey takes many different steps"
 
  • The morning begins with our second conference Plenary on "Naked Streets, Shared Space, and Road Safety". The YWALK Youth Forum will be held concurrently at the Royal Ontario Museum.
  • At 12:30 p.m. EST, Walk21 delegates will be taking part in the World Record Walk!
  • The afternoon will feature breakout sessions and walkshops.
  • Our conference banquet will be held on Wednesday evening at the Royal Ontario Museum. This evening will feature cocktails, fine food, and live entertainment in a world-class cultural institution.

"The destination – are we there yet?"
 
  • The final day of the conference will start with breakout sessions and walkshops on our third conference theme.
  • Delegates return to the Design Exchange for a special lunch and our Closing Plenary, which will feature a panel on "The Next Steps to Building Successful Communities", final words of inspiration, conference conclusions, and the conference handover to the City of Barcelona – host for Walk21 2008!
Venues
The conference was held at unique and historic venues in downtown Toronto including City Hall, Metro Hall, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the original site of the Toronto Stock Exchange, now home to the Design Exchange - Canada's design museum and centre for design research and education.

All of our venues are easily accessible by walking or a short trip on the TTC – Toronto's public transit system.
