Delegates were encouraged to attend a variety of pedestrian-friendly events that took place in Toronto leading up to and during the Walk21 conference:

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche
Saturday September 29, 7:00 p.m. – Sunday September 30, 7:00 a.m.
Last year was Toronto's first Nuit Blanche event and over 425,000 people took part in what can best be described as "a free all-night contemporary art thing." This is an amazing experience where Toronto's already vibrant art scene spills into the night. And it is the perfect event for pedestrians! For more information, visit the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche website.

Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market
Sunday September 30, 1:00 p.m.
Come to Kensington Market between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (as late as 10:00 p.m. on North Augusta St.) to join in this year's last PS Kensington event. Part of a monthly series of pedestrian events that happen in three downtown Toronto neighbourhoods, PS Kensington is a celebration of community, culture, and ecology. See one of Toronto's most dynamic neighbourhoods and enjoy great food, performances, music, cafes, and more. While Pedestrian Sundays don't permanently change the streets, they forever change the way you perceive them! For more information, visit the PS Kensington website.

Great Queen Street Psychogeographic Walk
Sunday September 30, 2:00 p.m.
Spacing Magazine and the Toronto Psychogeography Society present the Great Queen Street Psychogeographic Walk. Beginning at 2:00 pm at Queen and Roncesvalles, pedestrians will stroll together in an "unorganized organized walk" along the length of Queen Street, ending at the RC Harris Filtration Plant in the Beach. Stay tuned to the Spacing Wire for further details.

Streets to Screens!
Tuesday October 2, 7:00 p.m.
Join the Toronto Public Space Committee for a night of pedestrian-themed film followed by a panel discussion at the Bloor Cinema. The evening is open to the public and free for Walk21 delegates. For more information, visit the Streets to Screens website.

Walking Life Art Exhibit
Sunday September 9 – Thursday October 4
Open daily from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Opening reception on Sunday, September 9, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen Street West, 3rd floor

We all experience our world on foot, albeit to varying degrees, and, as a result, we each have our own Walking Life.

Walking Life is a month-long exhibit showcasing work created both by artists and community members that celebrates the experience of walking. The exhibit will take place at The Gladstone Hotel and is an excellent complement to Walk21 Toronto 2007. Delegates are encouraged to take in the exhibit whenever they can.

"The goals for Walking Life are by no means profound. In fact, the intentions are quite simple. First and foremost, we hope to generate excitement about walking. We would like to inspire people to reclaim (aka: use!) the sidewalks as public space. We would like to inspire people to think about the pedestrian experience. And, we would like people to contemplate the environments in which they walk. We have asked people of all kinds to convey their experiences through art, because the creative process has been known to stimulate contemplation, interesting discussion and even innovation."

For more information to, write to walkinglifeexhibit@gmail.com or visit the exhibit's webpage.
