Toronto City Council includes the mayor and 44 city councillors, representing the city's 44 municipal wards. City Council adopted the 44 single-member wards on January 19, 2000. City wards are based on the current 22 federal/provincial ridings in the city. The new ward boundaries reduced the number of City councillors, from 57 to 44 and took effect following the November 13, 2000 municipal election.
