Toronto Water - Accessibility Standards for Ontarians with Disabilities

The Province's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) requires both public and private sectors to develop and implement new accessibility standards in five areas:

  • Customer Service
  • Information and Communications
  • Employment
  • Built Environment
  • Transportation

Designed to remove barriers and prevent the creation of new ones, these standards target full accessibility across the province by 2025.

Accessible Customer Service is the first standard to be implemented. It obliges public sector organizations to comply by January 1, 2010 and private sector organizations by 2012.
