Pollution Prevention (P2) Planning
Toronto's Sewers Bylaw (Municipal Code, Chapter 681) requires that industries discharging subject pollutants must prepare a Pollution Prevention Plan in order to:
- improve water quality
- control toxic metals and organics
- improve the quality of biosolids
The City of Toronto is one of the first municipalities in Canada to incorporate Pollution Prevention (P2) Planning requirements into its Sewers Bylaw. The objective of P2 planning is to help industries identify ways of reducing and/or eliminating the creation of pollutants and wastes at source.
Environmental Monitoring & Protection's Pollution Prevention Group administers P2 plans. They assist industries with all aspects of compliance via telephone, E-mail or a visit. They also conduct training workshops.
