Revitalizing Toronto's Central Waterfront
Precinct Plans
Precinct planning looks at specific areas of the waterfront to define the location and character of parks, public spaces and promenades, streets and blocks, building form and location, transportation and public facilities. It is the final planning step before by-laws are enacted, and the detailed design and construction starts on streets, homes, parks and businesses. Waterfront Toronto, in partnership with the City, is currently preparing precinct plans for new communities in the East Bayfront and West Don Lands, and a new recreational park, Commissioners Park, in the Port Lands.

The planning team for each precinct has expertise in parks and public space design, sustainability, urban planning, transportation planning and municipal services engineering. Public consultation is being held to identify issues and opportunities, develop options, and review draft plans. The final precinct plans will be presented to both the Waterfront Toronto Board and Council. Harbourfront Parks and Open Space
While some of the parklands in Harbourfront are complete, others remain either undeveloped or underdeveloped, and are currently being used for parking and other interim uses. These park parcels are some of the most prominent sites in the City, and will be a key component of ongoing waterfront revitalization initiatives.

The Toronto Waterfront Scan and Environmental Improvement Strategy Study
The Toronto Waterfront Scan and Environmental Improvement Strategy Study has been completed to assist the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto in their joint efforts to achieve the revitalization of the Toronto Waterfront.

Central Waterfront Plan Part II
Toronto has a dream of transforming and re-energizing its waterfront into one of the great waterfronts of the world. A dream of building a spectacular gateway to this city, this province and this country.

Toronto's Port Lands and West Don Lands
The eastern shore of Toronto Harbour will gain a new lease on life as a $61-million project is initiated to clean up and service valuable land in the Port Lands district that holds great promise as a significant residential community and a node for new economy businesses.

Restoration of the mouth of the Don River
Environmental improvement is a major tenet of the Toronto waterfront revitalization initiative. Waterfront revitalization will restore mouth of Don River to clean, green, accessible area.

Cherry Beach Improvements
Cherry Beach, situated at the foot of Cherry Street in the Port Lands, has one of Toronto finest and cleanest sand beaches. Recognizing this is one of our City's hidden treasures, Waterfront Toronto has upgraded facilities at Cherry Beach to improve its appearance and use. The improvements include a new parking lot entrance, signs, landscaping and park furniture, improved trail access and lighting, and renovated washrooms. Treeplanting and the grand opening are scheduled next spring. The cost of the improvements to date is $1.5 million. This is Waterfront Toronto's first construction project and gives a taste of the quality of waterfront parks we can expect in the future.

Harbourfront Water's Edge
Waterfront Toronto is working with the Harbourfront Corporation on a $12.5 million project to reshape, landscape and resurface the promenade areas of York and John Quay, as well as construct new boardwalks and "finger piers". This will create a better public place for people to enjoy the Lake and the view across the water to the Islands. The project will be done in two phases. Construction at the York Quay will be completed this summer. The work on John Quay improvements will be start in fall, 2004.

Queen's Quay East Streetcar
New communities in the waterfront will be transit-oriented. To achieve this Waterfront Toronto, the City and TTC are planning a new streetcar line that will run east from Bay Street along Queens Quay East into East Bayfront. Preliminary design and environmental approvals will need to be completed quickly for this streetcar to be ready to serve the new community and parks being developed in East Bayfront. The plans call for the streetcar line to go as far as Parliament initially. It would later be extended to the Port Lands and connected to the West Don Lands.
