Business Improvement Areas
TTCThe Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) will be partners in the revitalization of St. Clair West. Their input and participation will be a key component of the project. Here are the BIAs along the corridor where construction will take place:

Local businesses offered support

The City of Toronto is providing support to local businesses along St. Clair Avenue West through two programs managed by the City’s Economic Development, Culture and Tourism Division – Shop St. Clair and the Commercial Facade Improvement Program.

Shop St. Clair is a sponsorship program available to the five Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) along St. Clair Avenue West. The goal of the program is to profile the BIAs, to generate additional traffic prior to and during construction, and to mitigate potential construction impacts. The sponsorship program will provide assistance for the BIAs to hold new and expanded festivals attracting participants from the GTA and beyond. For the second year in a row, the St. Clair Avenue West BIAs will receive a total of $80,000 divided amongst the five associations.

The Commercial Facade Improvement Program provides up to $12,500.00 to eligible applicants proposing new work to the face of their commercial properties. The program goal is to improve the appearance of the commercial area to encourage increased pedestrian traffic, recreational, dining and shopping activity along St. Clair. The application deadline for the program is July 31, 2006, subject to funding availability.

In addition, the TTC is also testing a Time Based Transfer on St. Clair Avenue, allowing riders to get on and off vehicles during a a two-hour period while this project is taking place.
