Interpretive Plaques: Project History
The 2004-2005 community mapping workshops were the first opportunities for community members and stakeholders to map out important neighbourhood features. Dr Nik Luka, then a local resident and professor, took this community mapping project to his undergraduate geography class at the University of Toronto and then to the Urban and Regional Planning program at Ryerson University. At Ryerson, planning students created initial designs for the plaque template, started to research local history and organized information into a preliminary list of themes and districts.

Between October 2006 and May 2007, two City Planning work-term students from Ryerson refined the plaque template, continued to research St Clair neighbourhoods, and began the process of taking this project to the community. See Ryerson students' work.

Since May 2007, the focus has been to connect with community members and research specific plaque themes, in order to make each plaque 'more than just a plaque'. This project has involved,
