This study has been completed. A new study specific to biosolids at the Highland Creek Treatment Plant will be initiated in 2013. The following information is provided for archival purposes.

Last updated May 8, 2013

The Study
The City of Toronto has completed a Biosolids Master Plan that provides direction on the future management of biosolids generated by the City’s water and wastewater treatment plants to the year 2025.

Details of the highest ranked biosolids management strategies are found in the Executive Summary   View the full Biosolids Master Plan Report.

In November/December 2009 City Council (Item PW28.5) approved the Biosolids Master Plan Environmental Assessment for Ashbridges Bay, Humber and North Toronto Treatment Plants.

In May 2011 City Council decided that for the Highland Creek Treatment Plant, beneficial use be the primary biosolids management strategy and landfill disposal be the contingency.
