Planning – Medical Emergencies
Medical emergencies in the workplace can occur at any time and can vary greatly, depending on the disaster, profession, work location etc. Safety risks are significantly different between heavy equipment operators, office workers. Take steps to prepare employees to respond to unforeseen medical situations:
-
Encourage employees to take basic First Aid and CPR training. If possible, arrange for on-site training sessions in order to maximize attendance and minimize disruption to normal working hours.
-
Ensure that First Aid supplies are kept in stock, easily accessible, and up to date.
-
Although you cannot compel employees to disclose personal medical information, it would be to their benefit if they make any medical conditions that may require support or special care in an emergency known (to be kept confidential)
-
Employee emergency contact information needs to be kept on file and current. Confidential copies should be stored with other essential information in your emergency kit and at another location off-site.
