Toronto's Emergency Management Training Certified by the Province of Ontario

The City of Toronto Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has been conducting training is a variety of areas since the Office was created after amalgamation. In fact over 400 people every year receive vital training in emergency management. This spring, the three core courses at OEM were recognized by the Province of Ontario, through Emergency Management Ontario, to be equivalent to the Provincial Standard of "Basic Emergency Management". Toronto is the first municipality to achieve this standard, largely due to the established high quality courses put on by OEM in cooperation with its' emergency management partners at Toronto Police, Fire, EMS and Shelter, Support and Housing. Candidates successfully completing the three courses will now have the pre-requisite required to continue on with other provincial and federal emergency management courses.

The three one day courses at OEM; "Introduction to Emergency Management", "Incident Management System" and "Emergency Operations Centre Management", cover the key fundamentals of emergency management through presentation and practical demonstrations in the OEM Emergency Management Training Centre. Courses are filled with both Toronto staff from the emergency services and other key City staff, as well as with staff from organizations within the City of Toronto.

The OEM training satisfies one of the legislated requirements for the City under the revised provincial Emergency Management Act. For more information contact OEM at oem@toronto.ca.
