Each year, Toronto marks Emergency Preparedness Week which is all about increasing awareness about the importance of individual preparedness.
The City of Toronto is encouraging residents to "get emergency-ready" as part of this years campaign. Emergency Preparedness Week is about increasing individual preparedness - by knowing the risks, making a plan and preparing a kit you can be better prepared for an emergency.
Prepare Today!
Disaster can strike at any time. The best way to survive an emergency or disaster situation is to be prepared.
Being prepared for an emergency means that you know the risks and have:
- an emergency plan
- an emergency kit to help you and your loved ones survive the first 72 hours after an emergency.
Your Emergency Plan
It’s important for everyone in your home to know what to do in an emergency. You’ll find information and tips on how to prepare your plan in this Personal Preparedness Guide (PDF). The Guide is also available at your local Access Toronto information counter.
It’s important to:

Practice your plan. Everyone in your home must know what to do.

Keep a copy of your plan in your emergency kit, in an easily accessible location.

Review and refresh the contents of your plan regularly. Keep emergency contact numbers up to date and make sure your plan reflects changes in your family such as births, marriages, address changes, etc.
