Mayor's Proclamation

Emergency Preparedness Week
May 6-12, 2012

WHEREAS: Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is an annual event designated to increase public awareness of how everyone can increase their personal preparedness to cope with emergencies.

WHEREAS: the City, in coordination with the Toronto Office of Emergency Management, is doing everything it can to prepare for disasters, residents also have an important role to play in ensuring their own safety during an emergency; an

WHEREAS: Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility and each of us can reduce the risk we face by better understanding what could happen and learning how to better prepare ourselves, our families and our community; and

WHEREAS: each of us must understand the risks inherent to where we live and work, and undertake actions such as making an emergency plan and preparing an emergency kit. Being prepared for an emergency starts with having a plan. Make sure everyone in your family knows what to do during and after an emergency. In this way, we can limit the extent to which an emergency affects us.

NOW THEREFORE: I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.7 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim the week of May 6-12, 2012 as "Emergency Preparedness Week" in the City of Toronto

Rob Ford
Mayor
