You may elect to opt in or out of City collection services. To do this the property owner will need to complete the Opting In/Opting Out of Solid Waste Management Collection form above. The residential rebate will no longer be issued to any resident that opts out and will end on the termination date of collection services.

Opting Out - Cancelling City Collection services for Single Family - Houses/RUAC (Residential units above commercial)

  • City waste collection is an all-or-nothing service. The decision to opt out of City waste collection means that your property is no longer eligible for City collection of any materials.
  • Under the Solid Waste Management Fee structure, residential properties receiving City collection service are charged a fee and receive an annual tax rebate. The prorated rebate will reflect the discontinuation date of collection services. Billing adjustments will be reflected on the next utility bill from the City. Locations that do not receive City collection are not eligible for the rebate.
  • For Residential customers opting out of collection, all bins assigned to the property will need to be picked up and returned to the City of Toronto in order for billing to end. Please ensure bins are visible and accessible for Solid Waste Management staff to collect them.

If you are renovating or demolishing a home or are travelling and require a decreased level or no solid waste collection for a period of time, you have the following options:

  • You may opt out via completion of the above form;
  • Continue to pay for a reduced level of solid waste collection services through downsizing your bin.

NOTE: Should you choose neither option, you will be charged for the bin we have on file for your address regardless of whether or not waste was set out for collection.

Opting In - Reinstating City Collection services for Single Family - Houses/RUAC (Residential units above commercial)
