Dial 9-1-1 and Call for an Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

  • Act Immediately! If you are the only person around, put your mobile phone on speaker mode to call 9-1-1
  • If there is any suspicions or symptoms of COVID-19, inform 9-1-1.

Prevent Contamination

  • Avoid unnecessary physical contact.
  • Lay cloth, towel or clothing over patient’s mouth and nose. This preventative measure will help prevent any potential spread of the virus through contaminated air or saliva.

Push Hard And Fast In The Centre Of The Chest

  • Don’t stop until help arrives or the person begins to respond.
  • Pump chest at rhythm of 100-120 beats per minute. (TIP – think of the beat of “Stayin Alive” by the Bee Gees  or “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor)

 Use an AED if available

  • AEDs are safe and simple to use.
  • Turn it on and follow the voice instructions

Important Safety Reminders:

  • Do not listen or feel for breathing by placing your ear and cheek close to the person’s mouth, simply observe the person’s breathing.
  • After providing Hands-Only CPR, wash or thrown away cloth, towel or clothing used to cover the person’s face. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand gel as an alternative
