Final Splash Pad Design

The design for the splash pad has been finalized and will include:

November 2022

Community engagement for the splash pad design is complete. Based on community feedback, the splash pad will include:

  • Fountain sprays
  • Frog water loop water feature
  • Upright serpent water feature
  • Upright flower water feature
  • Upright cat tail water feature
  • Bucket water feature

Online Survey

From May 16 to May 29, 2022, feedback on multiple splash pad design options was collected in an online survey. The survey was promoted through paid social media ads, outreach to nearby schools, the local Councillor’s office, on-site signage, postcards and on this page. The survey received a total of 297 responses.

The design team will use this feedback to refine a final design. The final design will be available on this page in summer.

Key Feedback Highlights
  • When asked to rank their splash pad design preference, respondents ranked Splash Pad Design A highest (50 per cent) followed by Splash Pad Design B (38 per cent) and Splash Pad Design C (13 per cent)
  • Respondents shared that the three most important features to include in the new splash pad are:
    • tall in-ground water jets with multiple sprays
    • hoop/arch tunnel water spray
    • water bucket dumping upright features
  • Respondents shared that the three least important features to include in the new splash pad are:
    • tall in-ground water jets
    • in-ground water jets with direction sprays
    • water sprays in a low wall
  • If budget permits, the three features respondents would like more of in the improved splash pad are:
    • tall in-ground water jets with multiple sprays
    • hoop/arch tunnel water spray
    • water bucket dumping upright features
  • For seating around the splash pad:
    • 50 per cent of respondents like concrete seatwall with bench tops
    • 35 per cent of respondents like picnic tables
    • 31 per cent of the respondents like benches
    • 30 per cent of respondents like seatwall (large stones)
    • 24 per cent of respondents like Muskoka chairs
    • 13 per cent of respondents like permanent umbrellas with tables
  • The preferred colour scheme for the new splash pad was bright colours, like yellow, orange, and purple (64 per cent) over earthy colours like green, brown, and grey (26 per cent).

All three designs are accessible, have the same amount of water features and cost the same amount.

Pelmo Park is a 4.9 hectare park located at 171 Pellatt Ave., in Etobicoke. The City is upgrading the existing splash pad and will be engaging the community to develop the new design. The new splash pad will be larger in size and replace the existing splash pad in roughly the same location near the existing playground. The splash pad is proposed to include:

  • Water jets and play elements that spray water
  • Various water play activities for children of all ages
  • Water activator push buttons

This project will only include improvements to the existing splash pad and will not include improvements to other areas of the park.
