The Local Leadership Fund provides emerging leaders in Toronto’s BIA movement with full tuition to Ryerson University’s Local Economic Development (LED) Certificate Program.

The Local Leadership Fund helps to develop the pool of talent available to Toronto BIAs by supporting emerging leaders in acquiring specialized training in Local Economic Development (LED), and supporting them through professional mentoring and networking opportunities.

Ryerson’s LED program is run through The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. The goal of the program is to successfully prepare graduates in the workforce with the knowledge and competence to address the current and emerging area of Local Economic Development.

The program consists of four core courses:

  • CPLE 795: Local Economic Development Fundamentals
  • CPLE 995: Economic Development and Business Improvement
  • CVUP 155: LED Applied Research Project
  • CVUP 160: Capstone Project in LED

To be eligible for support through the Local Leadership Fund, applicants must work for or provide volunteer support to a Toronto BIA and/or be involved and support the wider BIA movement.

Successful applicants to the BIA 2019 Local Leadership Fund will be enrolled into Ryerson University’s Certificate Program in Local Economic Development for the Fall Semester and are expected to complete the program by Fall of 2020.
