Applications are being accepted to fill the Ward 41 Councillor vacancy by appointment. The deadline is June 19, 2018 at 4:30 p.m.

Toronto City Council will appoint a qualified elector at a special meeting of City Council on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 to fill the vacancy of Office of Councillor, Ward 41, Scarborough-Rouge River.

The successful applicant will serve the remainder of the 2014 – 2018 term of office ending on November 30, 2018.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for appointment a person must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age
  • a resident of the City of Toronto, or own or rent property in the City of Toronto (or the spouse of the owner or renter)
  • not legally prohibited from voting, or from holding municipal office

Interested individuals must complete:

  • a Declaration of Qualification
  • Consent of Nominee; and
  • provide identification showing name, signature and qualifying address within the City of Toronto

Applicants are welcome to submit letters, biographies or related documents to be considered by City Council in support of their candidacy. Please note these will be made available to the public, including the media.

All forms and documents submitted by the applicant are a matter of public record.

The deadline for filing an application is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at:

  • the Clerk’s Office Service Counter, Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive, 3rd floor; or
  • the City Clerk’s Office Service Counter, City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., west side of the rotunda.

The form must be filed in person. Please do not sign the form in advance.

Information Session – June 12, 2018

Staff will provide an overview of the appointment process. Applications will be available and City Clerk’s office staff will be on hand to assist applicants and answer any questions. Applications and supporting documentation will be accepted at the session.

Special Meeting of City Council – June 26, 2018

City Council will hear from and ask questions of applicants, and vote to appoint a person to fill the vacancy at a special meeting on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 100 Queen Street West.

Withdrawing an Application

You can withdraw your application at any time up to the start of the Special Meeting of City Council on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.
