The company EasyPark Group released the 2017 Smart Cities Index which explores cities that are most prepared for the digital future. The company analyzed cities around the world, and Toronto ranked 20th out of 100 cities. The results of the study were based on interviews with journalists who cover technology and urban planning. The assessment for the ranking was based on 19 factors that identify leading cities in smart urban growth. Toronto performed well in areas such as Smart Parking, Public Transport, Clean Energy and Education.
