The Global Green Finance Index (GGFI 2) measures financial products or services that result in an improved environment and society. The results of the report are based on survey responses from financial professionals. The Index is composed of two components including the depth of green finance, and the quality of green finance.

Compared to 59 financial centres, Toronto ranks 23rd for depth and 24th for green finance. This is an improvement of more than 5 points compared to the previous report (GGFI 1). It is worth noting that Toronto placed 5th in both depth and finance quality compared to other North American cities. The GGFI 2 also highlighted Toronto as a centre that was expected to improve significantly over the next few years by at least 20 percent.
