Toronto was named one of the greenest cities in the world by MIT. In collaboration with the World Economic Forum, MIT researchers calculated the Green View Index (GVI) using Google Street View panoramas. As stated on the Treepedia website, “by using Google Street View rather than satellite imagery, we represent human perception of the environment from the street level.” Each city has a percentage score that represents the percentage of canopy coverage. Toronto received a result of 19.5%.
