On February 13, 2017, the Clerk conducted a by-election to fill the vacancy in the office of Councillor, ward 42 (Scarborough-Rouge River). Neethan Shan is the elected Councillor.
Information for Candidates
The campaign period starts the day a candidate files their Nomination Paper and ends on March 30, 2017. Candidates can no longer accept contributions or incur any expenses beyond the end of the campaign period.
Extension of campaign period
If a candidate wishes to extend their campaign to erase a deficit, they must file a Notice of Extension of Campaign Period, Form 6, in person, by 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Election Services, 89 Northline Road. Candidates who extend their campaign must file two financial statements:
- a primary financial statement which covers all financial activity from the day the nomination paper is filed until March 30, 2017
- a supplementary financial statement which covers all financial activity from the day the nomination paper is filed until October 2, 2017
Primary financial statement due by 2 p.m., due by Monday, May 1, 2017
All candidates are required to file a Financial Statement – Auditor’s Report, Form 4 outlining all contributions accepted and all expenses incurred. It is the responsibility of the candidate to file a complete and accurate financial statement by the deadline.
Supplementary financial statement due by 2 p.m. due by Wednesday, November 1, 2017
Candidates who extended their campaign are required to file a Financial Statement – Auditor’s Report, Form 4.
