Deadline for Filing the Primary Financial Statement by 2 p.m.: All nominated candidates must file their primary financial statement by this date. The statement covers the period from the day the candidate filed their nomination paper until March 30, 2017. A candidate must notify the Clerk, in writing, of any Court extension by 2 p.m.

First day to apply for a compliance audit on a primary financial filing (after 2 p.m.): Any eligible elector in the City of Toronto that believes a candidate may have contravened the Act relating to campaign finances, can apply to the City Clerk’s Office to request a compliance audit.

30 Day Extension for Primary Financial Filing: Candidates have up to 30 days to file the primary financial statement and pay $500 late filing fee in order for the penalties not to apply.

Notice of Default: All candidates who did not file the primary financial statement will receive a Notice of Default outlining the penalties and the additional 30 day grace period.

Penalties: Last day for candidates to file primary financial statement and pay $500 late filing fee. Penalties will take effect at 2:01 p.m. if the candidate does not file the required financial statement.

End of Supplementary Campaign Period: This is the end of the supplementary campaign period ends for candidates who extended their campaign to erase a deficit.

Last Day to Apply to the Court for a Filing Extension (Supplementary Financial Filing): This is the last day for a candidate to apply to the Superior Court of Justice to have their financial filing deadline extended for a maximum of 90 days.

Deadline for Contribution Rebate Applications (4:30 p.m.)

Final date by which contributors can file their rebate application for contributions made to Council candidates in the 2017 by-election. Candidates should encourage their contributors to mail in the rebate forms as soon as they receive them.
