The open loop geothermal supply and injection well testing continues and is anticipated to be completed in early 2024.
Construction of the new open loop geothermal supply and injection wells to heat and cool the new community centre starts in early September. It is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2022. Construction signs are posted on-site.
On June 9, 2022, the final open house took place at Carmine Stefano Community Centre. The local Councillor was in attendance and the project team shared information about the project with the community.

From November 23 to December 18, 2020, a digital open house took place where draft building and landscape plans were presented and feedback was collected in a survey. The feedback collected in this phase of engagement will help refine and inform a more detailed design of both indoor and outdoor spaces of the new Community Centre.

To ensure the centre is designed to be welcoming for local youth, the project team held six youth workshops throughout December 2020. Each workshop included five to 10 high school students and lasted approximately one hour. The workshops were hosted online using Miro, an interactive online platform that allows participants to vote, and leave notes and questions throughout the workshop.

On July 13 and 19, pop-up events were held at the Humbermede Community Fun Fair in the Woodview Park Library parking lot and at the Emery Village Movie in the Park in Joseph Bannon Park, respectively.
On June 12, a pop-up was held at Basil-the-Great College.
On June 4, City staff and consultants were available at an open house to provide information, answer questions and receive community input on the project.
The site at 60 Starview Lane was purchased in 2015 and is east of Weston Road and Starview Lane. It is next to the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s St. Basil-the-Great College at 20 Starview Lane.
The scope of work for this project includes the planning, design and construction of a new 77,000 square foot state-of-the-art community and recreation centre that is intended to be a net zero emissions facility. The new centre will replace the existing Carmine Stefano Community Centre, currently being leased by the City. The new community centre will provide enhanced programming with no interruption to service.
