During Phase 1 of the consultation, the study team visited nine families living in vertical communities in key growth areas across the city. Parents and children discussed the challenges and opportunities experienced, highlighted the changes or “hacks” they’ve made to their homes and shared ideas about what would make raising children in tall buildings
easier. This participatory consultation approach offered numerous insights and a key lesson – instead of “hacking” their homes, many families have “hacked” their thinking about what they need to successfully raise their children in the city.
Below is a summary of our visit with families.
