The City of Toronto is responding to an increasing demand for homelessness services across the entire city. Expanding the existing shelter capacity is an important step towards transitioning people who are experiencing homelessness towards permanent housing. Shelter capacity is being expanded through various projects that involve new emergency shelter spaces, 24-hour respite sites, drop-in centres, replacement shelters for decommissioned sites and shelters opened in-response to COVID-19 physical distancing protocols.
