The City of Toronto will replace the watermain and City-owned substandard water services on Dundas Street West between Spadina Avenue and Bay Street. The City will also be reconstructing the intersections at Carlyle Street and Casimir Street along with repairing road and sidewalks impacted by previous utility works. The road will be resurfaced where watermain work was completed.

This work is required to bring City infrastructure to a state of good repair. This project is part of the Council-approved 2018 Capital Works Program.

Construction Dates:

Start Date: September 24, 2018

End Date: Fall 2019

Phase 1: September 24, 2018 to December 31, 2018

Dundas: From Bathurst to Spadina

Crews will be:

  • Repairing road and sidewalk affected by previous utility works, where required
  • Reconstructing the intersections at Carlyle, Casimir
  • This reconstruction work will minimize conflicts between vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians and meet Accessibility requirements
  • Traffic will have one lane in each direction throughout Phase 1
  • Intersection Closures: will take place separately at Carlyle and Casimir
  • The details for each intersection closure will be included in the next construction notice

Phase 2: Mid-October 2018 to Spring 2019

Dundas: From Spadina to Simcoe

Crews will:

  • Excavate the road, dig a trench and replace the existing watermain,
  • The City-owned section of the water service pipe that does not meet City standards will be replaced
  • Sidewalks will be repaired and roads affected by watermain work will be resurfaced
  • Traffic will have one lane in each direction throughout Phase 2

 

 

Phase 3: Spring 2019 to Fall 2019

Dundas: From University to Bay

Crews will:

  • Excavate the road, dig a trench and replace the existing watermain
  • Bump outs at Centre, Chestnut and Elizabeth will be constructed
  • The City-owned section of the water service pipe that does not meet City standards will be replaced
  • Sidewalks will be repaired and roads affected by watermain work will be resurfaced
  • Same as in Phase 2

Note: Temporary pipes will be required to continue providing water services to local properties. These pipes will be placed between University and Bay. See page 4 for example photo.
