(“the Contest”) – The Green Living Show – April 6 – 8, 2018

Contest Rules

No purchase or other consideration of any kind is necessary to enter or win. All entrants have equal chances of winning the Prize.

The Contest Period

The Contest entry period commences at 12:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) on Friday April 6, 2018 and concludes at 6:00 p.m. EST on Sunday April 8, 2018 (the “Contest Period”).


The Contest is open to individuals who are 18 years of age at the time he or she enters the Contest and who live and/or work in the City of Toronto (the Contest Sponsor). Directors, officers, agents and employees of the Contest Sponsor and those with whom the above are domiciled are not eligible to enter the Contest. All entrants must comply with the Contest Rules.

How to enter

Eligible persons may enter the Contest by completing a valid ballot and depositing it in the designated ballot box at the Green Living Show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (North Building), 255 Front St W, Toronto, Ontario M5V 2W6 (“the Green Living Show”). Only complete ballots will be valid. Limit of one entry per person.  Multiple entries will be excluded. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are reproduced, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way.

All ballots are the property of the Contest Sponsor.  Completed ballots will not be returned and may be destroyed at the discretion of the Contest Sponsor upon completion of the Contest.

Ballots may be obtained at Booth # 708 at The Green Living Show (” Booth #708″).

Ballots must be entered into the Contest ballot box located at Booth #708 by 6:00 p.m. Sunday April 8, 2018.

No purchase necessary

No purchase is necessary to enter the Contest and win the Prize.

Prize and prize value

There is one (1) Prize which consists of one Premium BBQ set, Roller Cooler, Apron, Cold Gel Pack, Silicone Oven Glove, Bag Clip, Thermometer and Home Food Safety Pamphlet with an approximate retail value of $200.00 (“the Prize”).

All dollar amounts are expressed in Canadian currency.

Winner selection and notification

The potential winner must correctly answer a skill-testing question.  The Prize winner will be selected in a random draw from eligible entries on or about 4:30 p.m. April 10, 2018. The Contest Sponsor will attempt to contact the potential winner by the email address or by the phone number provided on his or her ballot entry by 4:30 p.m. April 20th, 2018. In the event the potential winner cannot be contacted he or she will be disqualified and an alternate potential winner may be selected.   Once contacted by phone or email, a Notification Email or Canada Post mail will inform the potential winner that he or she is a potential winner of the Prize.

A Release Form will be attached to the Notification Email/Canada Post mail and will include instructions for returning the Release Form to the Contest Sponsor. The potential winner must sign the Release Form before being declared a Contest winner. The Release Form will include a skill-testing question.

If the  potential Contest winner  is found to be ineligible, declines to sign the Contest Release Form or fails to submit the Release Form to the Contest Sponsor in accordance with the Contest rules, fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question or who fails to collect the Prize by 3:30 p.m. April 30, 2018 will forfeit the Prize. An alternate winner may be selected from the remaining eligible entrants. The Contest Sponsor shall be completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard.

Deadline for claiming a prize

The Notification Email/Canada Post mail will provide the potential winner with instructions about how to collect his or her Prize. Each potential winner must provide the Contest Sponsor with a completed and signed Release Form by 3:30 p.m. April 30th, 2018 before he or she can claim his or her Prize. Once declared the Contest winner, the winner can make arrangements with the Contest Sponsor to pick up the Prize at one of the following Toronto Public Health office locations: 1530 Markham Rd. 5th Floor, 399 The West Mall (Etobicoke Civic Centre) 4th Floor, 44 Victoria St. 18th Floor, 5100 Yonge St. 2nd Floor, (North York Civic Centre), 175 Memorial Park Avenue or 40 St. Clair Avenue East, Suite 201. Prizes must be collected by 3:30 p.m. April 30, 2018. Photo ID must be shown when the Prize is collected.


Chances of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.


The Contest Sponsor makes no representation or offers any warranty, express or implied, as to the quality or fitness of the Prize awarded in connection with the Contest.  The Contest winner understands and acknowledges that he or she may not seek reimbursement or pursue any legal or equitable remedy from the Contest Sponsor should the Prize fail to be fit for its purpose or is in any way unsatisfactory to the Contest winner.


Declaration and release of prize winner and skill-testing question

To be declared a winner, the potential Contest winner must:

a) Correctly answer, unaided, a time-limited skill-testing mathematical question; and

b) Sign a Release – Declaration and Release of Liability (the “Release Form”) that confirms that the potential winner:

  1. Is eligible for the Contest and has complied with the Contest Rules.
  2. Understands that acceptance of the Prize may involve danger and/or exposure to risks and hazards of both man-made and natural origin, whether arising from foreseeable or unforeseeable human error and negligence, and that, as a result, the winner may suffer damage to personal property, serious personal injury, illness or even death.
  3. Freely and voluntarily agrees and assumes any and all risks of personal injury, illness, death arising out of or connected with the winner’s participation in the Contest and winning the Prize.
  4. Releases the Contest Sponsor and its directors, officers, employees and agents (collectively, the “Releasees”) from any and all liability arising in connection with participation in the Contest and acceptance of the Prize, including, without limitation, any financial, legal or moral responsibility or loss or personal injury including death or damage to or loss of property suffered or incurred or arising from participating in the Contest or accepting the Prize, whether suffered by the Contest winner, or by the Contest winner’s heirs, administrators, personal representatives or executors, and notwithstanding that such injuries or losses may have been caused solely or partly by any act, omission, negligence or gross negligence of any or all of the Releasees.

A Declaration and Release Form will be attached to the Notification Email/Canada Post mail. The Prize will only be awarded upon return of a fully executed Release Form in accordance with the Contest Rules.

Prize substitution

The Prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and non-refundable, has no cash surrender value and must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions. The Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute and/or modify the Prize, with a Prize of equal or greater value for any reason. Should the Contest winner be unable to claim his/her prize as awarded, his/her rights to the Prize will be forfeited.


Subject to applicable law, the Contest Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend, terminate, modify the Contest Rules or administration of the Contest, in whole or in part, without prior notice with no obligation or liability, including, if for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, whether due to technical failure, tampering, fraud, corruption of security or other causes beyond the control of the Contest Sponsor.

Ownership of entries

All entries shall become the property of the Contest Sponsor. The Releasees assume no responsibility for lost, stolen, destroyed or otherwise indecipherable entries due to any failure or technical malfunction of the telephone network, on-line computer systems or equipment, servers, access providers, software, poor reception, technical problems, failure of any email or submission or due to any other reason regardless of cause.

Consent to collection and use of personal information

By entering the Contest and voluntarily providing personal information including, but not limited to, name and email address, telephone number and/or mailing address (the “Entrant Information”), each Contest entrant grants permission to the Contest Sponsor to collect and use the Entrant Information for the exclusive purpose of administering the Contest and selecting the Contest winner. No correspondence will take place between the Contest Sponsor and the entrants in connection with the Contest, except in the case of the Contest winner, as a result of entering the Contest and winning the Prize.

In addition to the foregoing, and by entering the Contest, the Contest winner consents to the posting of his or her first name on all media used by the Contest Sponsor including, but not limited to, the Keep Food Safe at Home, Toronto Public Health website, Twitter and Facebook, without any payment or compensation.


If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, mail disruption, or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of the Contest Sponsor that corrupts, impairs or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the Contest Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, extend or suspend the Contest and/or the Prize. The Contest Sponsor further reserves the right to disqualify, from this Contest and future Contests of the Contest Sponsor, any individual who tampers with or in any way corrupts the entry process. The Contest Sponsor may prohibit an entrant from participating in the Contest or winning the Prize if, in the Contest Sponsor’s sole discretion, the Contest Sponsor determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or any unfair playing practices (including the use of automated quick entry programs) or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or the Contest Sponsor’s representatives. Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be in violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Contest Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages (including lawyers’ fees) from any such entrant or any other individual to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.

Limitation of liability

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees that the Releasees shall have no liability and shall be held harmless by the entrant for any damage, loss or liability to person or property, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of entering the Contest, the acceptance, possession, use, enjoyment or misuse of any prize, or while preparing for, participating in any Contest-related or prize-related activity. The Releasees are not responsible for technical, hardware, software or telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, mail disruption, fraud, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions, whether caused by any of the Releasees, users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions that may cause damage to a user’s system or limit a potential entrant’s ability to participate in the Contest.

Compliance with laws

This Contest is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations. The Contest Rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws.
