In order to be eligible for Investment in Youth Engagement Initiative funding, the project must meet all of the following four requirements.

  • Each project is required to establish a youth group with members who identify as peer leaders
  • Participants in youth groups must be between the ages of 13 – 24
  • The project will be implemented in Toronto between Fall 2017 and June 2019
  • Youth groups will develop a project that addresses at least one tobacco prevention topic identified by the youth
  • Application, project, and work plan should be developed and written by youth group members
  • Returning applicants are required to include an advocacy, supportive environments, or policy development component to the project e.g. creating a smoke-free policy in your organization, engaging your local MPP, or organizing a petition for smoke-free movies
  • Youth groups will be assigned a Public Health Nurse to work with throughout the initiative and are expected to connect with them on a regular basis for support with project implementation
  • Youth groups must submit a final report on July 15th, 2019 along with any products developed as part of the project
  • Youth groups must acknowledge TPH for funding in any print materials and media opportunities/events regarding the Investment in Youth Engagement Initiative
  • Youth groups are required to submit for pre-approval any materials produced using the TPH logo
    Youth groups are encouraged to provide TPH with media clippings and copies of any materials produced using TPH project funds
  • Youth groups are required to have representatives attend orientation, knowledge exchange, and various training sessions. Dates to be announced.

Youth groups must be partnered with a youth-serving organization that will:

  • Provide project support to youth group, if required
  • Have a Charitable Registration Number or Incorporation Number
  • Be able to receive and administer funds
  • Sign a formal Letter of Understanding (LOU) with TPH for this project and abide by the terms, conditions, and obligations outlined in the LOU, as well as the commitments described in this application
  • Satisfy the reporting requirements (i.e. Mid-term and Final Survey and Quarterly Status Updates) of the IYE initiative
  • Have suitable financial control and expenditure approval processes to ensure the funds are used for the purposes of the IYE initiative
  • Provide a financial statement showing budget and actual expenditures upon request
  • Carry suitable liability insurance to cover the proposed project activities

Youth groups must be partnered with an adult ally who will:

  • Attend an orientation session in November 2017
  • Obtain signatures on LOU and return to TPH
  • Support youth to attend trainings and provide support as needed with their application, implementation of project, and reporting requirements
  • Support youth to maintain records of how the budget was spent
  • Collaborate with TPH to facilitate and participate in evaluation components
  • Satisfy the IYE reporting requirements (i.e. Mid-term and Final Survey and Quarterly Status Updates)
  • Contact supporting Public Health Nurse regarding any changes to the original application and/or work plan for approval (see Part E for suggested work plan template)
  • Advise supporting Public Health Nurse of any changes to adult ally/group membership/other important contacts
  • Satisfy the IYE reporting requirements (i.e. Mid-term and Final Survey and Quarterly Status

Youth groups must identify peer leaders to lead the project who will:

  • Attend an orientation training session in December 2017
  • Attend training opportunities and share training/educational materials and content with their youth group members
  • Attend a knowledge exchange session for peer leaders in October 2018
  • Participate regularly on the IYE closed Facebook group to, communicate, network, and promote group events/activities
  • Attend mid-term and final celebratory events wherein group can share successes and final products (dates TBD)
  • Participate in Centre for Excellence in Youth Engagement evaluation activities
  • Satisfy the IYE reporting requirements (i.e. Mid-term and Final Survey and Quarterly Status Updates)
  • Contact supporting Public Health Nurse regarding any changes to the original application and/or work plan for approval (see Part E for suggested work plan template)
  • Advise supporting Public Health Nurse of any changes to adult ally/group membership/other important contacts
  • Satisfy the IYE reporting requirements (i.e. Mid-term and Final Survey and Quarterly Status Updates)
