Youth Leadership Initiatives
The Youth Leadership Initiatives are peer-led health promotion initiatives for youth offered by Toronto Public Health. Youth can learn about the prevention of substance misuse, mental health and well-being by identifying and taking action on an area of focus.
If you are interested, talk to your school about getting involved in these initiatives.
Student drug use trends and patterns. Ontario students grade 7-12:
- 45.8% reported drinking alcohol in the past year
- 17.6% report binge drinking (5 or more drinks in one sitting) at least once during the four weeks before the survey
- 21.3% reported using cannabis in the past year

Party in the Right Spirit
“Party in the Right Spirit” is a program for university/college students and campus staff working with students to provide support to promote safer partying and safer substance use.
Toronto Public Health offers training and education to student peer leaders on the following topics:
- Substance misuse prevention
- Personal safety
- Ways to reduce legal responsibility when hosting parties and events
