Toronto's Learn to Swim programs provide a full range of classes for swimmers of every skill level. Each program gives the participant the opportunity to increase knowledge of water safety and improve swimming skills in a safe and enjoyable environment. Whether you have a child who needs to improve their skills, a teenager who wants to be a lifeguard, or you simply want to get back into the swim of things, give our instructional programs a try.

Adult Swim 1

Introduction of front & back swim, front, side and back glide, submersion & breath control, surface support and deep water. Continuous swim of 25 to 50 metres.

Prerequisite: None.

Adult Swim 1 - Small Group

Introduction of front & back swim, front, side and back glide, submersion & breath control, surface support and deep water. Continuous swim of 25 to 50 metres. Class size is limited to 4.

Prerequisite: None.

Adult Swim 1 (Women)

Introduction of front & back swim, front, side and back glide, submersion & breath control, surface support and deep water. Continuous swim of 25 to 50 metres. This program is for women only.

Prerequisite: None.

Adult Swim 2

Development of front crawl, back crawl, glides, surface support and deep water. Introduction of stride entry, eggbeater and breaststroke. Continuous swim of 50 to 100 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Adult Swim 1.

Adult Swim 2 - Small Group

Development of front crawl, back crawl, glides, surface support and deep water. Introduction of stride entry, eggbeater and breaststroke. Continuous swim of 50 to 100 metres. Class size is limited to 4.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Adult Swim 1.

Adult Swim 2 (Women)

Development of front crawl, back crawl, glides, surface support and deep water. Introduction of stride entry, eggbeater and breaststroke. Continuous swim of 50 to 100 metres. This program is for women only.

Adult Swim 3

Development of surface support and stroke improvement. Continuous swim of 100 to 300 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Adult Swim 2.

Adult Swim 3 (Women)

Development of surface support and stroke improvement. Continuous swim of 100 to 300 metres. This program is for women only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Adult Swim 2.

Guardian Swim - Small Group

The Guardian Swim Program provides an introduction to the aquatic environment and basic skills. It is age appropriate and progressive. Learning is facilitated through the parent/ caregiver to ensure comfort, communication and extra safety. Parent or guardian must accompany child into the water. One child per parent/guardian. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Guardian Swim 1

Program designed to promote comfort and safety in the water for the caregiver and child. Introduction to entries & exits, submersion & breath control, and basic floats with assistance. One child per caregiver.

Guardian Swim 1 (Girls)

Program designed to promote comfort and safety in the water for the caregiver and child. Introduction to entries & exits, submersion & breath control, and basic floats with assistance. One child per caregiver. This program is for girls only.

Guardian Swim 2

Program designed to promote comfort and safety in the water for the caregiver and child. Development of front float, back float and surface support. Introduction to front and back glide and submersion. One child per caregiver.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Guardian Swim 1.

Guardian Swim 2 (Girls)

Program designed to promote comfort and safety in the water for the caregiver and child. Development of front float, back float and surface support. Introduction to front and back glide and submersion. One child per caregiver. This program is for girls only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Guardian Swim 1.

Guardian Swim 3

Program designed to promote comfort and safety in the water for the caregiver and child. Development of all skills unassisted. Introduction to front swim with basic arm action and jump into the water with personal flotation device (PFD). One child per caregiver.

Preschool Swim 2: Stingray

Development of entries & exits, bobbing and floats without assistance. Introduction to front swim. Continuous swim three metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Preschool Swim 1 or Guardian Swim 3.

Preschool Swim 2: Stingray (Girls)

Development of entries & exits, bobbing and floats without assistance. Introduction to front swim. Continuous swim three metres. This program is for girls only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Preschool Swim 1 or Guardian Swim 3.

Preschool Swim 3: Otter

Development of front swim and back swim. Introduction to side glides, sculling and deep water. Continuous swim of five metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Preschool Swim 2.

Preschool Swim 4: Dolphin

Development of front swim, back swim and sidekick. Introduction into jumping into deep water. Continuous swim of 10 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Preschool Swim 3.

SPLASH Swim Team

Swimmers are encouraged to expand their swimming skills by practicing their strokes in a team-based environment and showcasing their skills in a competitive setting during swim meets.

Prerequisite: Must be able to swim at least two continuous pool lengths (e.g. 50 metres) of unassisted front swim and show ability to take breaths.

Stroke Improvement - Adult

A program that allows swimmers to work on stroke correction and improving technique through drills and progressions focused on front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke.

Prerequisite: Must be 17+ years old.

Swim Lessons - Private

Private lessons provide a ratio of one instructor per participant while completing swimming skills specific to the participant.

Tiny Tots Swim

Children in tiny tots progress through the Learn to Swim skills at their own pace. Lessons are private (one participant per instructor) and 15 minutes in length. There are no prerequisites.

Ultra Swim 1

Ultra Swim 2 - Small Group

Development of front swim, back kick and glides. Introduction to deep water, surface support, side glide and kicking. Continuous swim of 5 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 1 or Preschool Swim 3.

Ultra Swim 2 (Girls)

Development of front swim, back kick and glides. Introduction to deep water, surface support, side glide and kicking. Continuous swim of 5 metres. This program is for girls only.

Ultra Swim 3

Development of surface support, side glide and kicking. Introduction to front crawl, diving and back swim. Continuous swim of 10 metres.

Ultra Swim 3 - Small Group

Development of surface support, side glide and kicking. Introduction to front crawl, diving and back swim. Continuous swim of 10 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Ultra Swim 3 (Boys)

Ultra Swim 4 - Small Group

Development of front crawl and treading water. Introduction to side breathing, somersault, whip-kick and forward roll. Continuous swim of 25 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Ultra Swim 4 (Boys)

Ultra Swim 5

Development of front dive, forward roll and front crawl. Introduction to back crawl, eggbeater kick and elementary backstroke arms. Continuous swim of 75 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 4.

Ultra Swim 5 - Small Group

Development of front dive, forward roll and front crawl. Introduction to back crawl, eggbeater kick and elementary backstroke arms. Continuous swim of 75 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 4.

Ultra Swim 5 (Girls)

Development of front dive, forward roll and front crawl. Introduction to back crawl, eggbeater kick and elementary backstroke arms. Continuous swim of 75 metres. This program is for girls only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 4.

Ultra Swim 6

Development of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and eggbeater. Introduction to stride entries, surface dives, breaststroke and interval training. Continuous swim of 150 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 5.

Ultra Swim 6 - Small Group

Development of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and eggbeater. Introduction to stride entries, surface dives, breaststroke and interval training. Continuous swim of 150 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 5.

Ultra Swim 6 (Boys)

Development of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and eggbeater. Introduction to stride entries, surface dives, breaststroke and interval training. Continuous swim of 150 metres. This program is for boys only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 5.

Ultra Swim 6 (Girls)

Development of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and eggbeater. Introduction to stride entries, surface dives, breaststroke and interval training. Continuous swim of 150 metres. This program is for girls only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 5.

Ultra Swim 7

Development of surface dives, eggbeater, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Introduction to shallow dive into deep water and clothed treading water. Continuous swim of 200 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 6.

Ultra Swim 7 - Small Group

Development of surface dives, eggbeater, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Introduction to shallow dive into deep water and clothed treading water. Continuous swim of 200 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 6.

Ultra Swim 7 (Boys)

Development of surface dives, eggbeater, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Introduction to shallow dive into deep water and clothed treading water. Continuous swim of 200 metres. This program is for boys only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 6.

Ultra Swim 7 (Girls)

Development of surface dives, eggbeater, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Introduction to shallow dive into deep water and clothed treading water. Continuous swim of 200 metres. This program is for girls only.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 6.

Ultra Swim 8

Development of surface dives with underwater swim, object support and all strokes. Continuous swim of 300 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 7.

Ultra Swim 8 - Small Group

Development of surface dives with underwater swim, object support and all strokes. Continuous swim of 300 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 7.

Ultra Swim 8 (Girls)

Development of surface dives with underwater swim, object support and all strokes. Continuous swim of 300 metres. This program is for girls only.

Ultra Swim 9

Development of non-contact rescues and stroke improvement. Introduction of stride jump. Continuous swim of 400 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 8.

Ultra Swim 9 - Small Group

Development of non-contact rescues and stroke improvement. Introduction of stride jump. Continuous swim of 400 metres. Class size limited to 4 participants.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Swim 8.

Ultra Swim 9 (Girls)

Ultra Youth Swim 1

Introduction of front & back swim, front, side & back glide, submersion & breath control, surface support and deep water. Continuous swim of 25 to 50 metres.

Prerequisite: None.

Ultra Youth Swim 2

Development of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and surface support. Introduction of stride entry, eggbeater, surface dives and breaststroke. Continuous swim of 50 to 100 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Youth 1.

Ultra Youth Swim 3

Development of entries, surface dives and stroke improvement. Introduction to object support. Continuous swim of 100 to 300 metres.

Prerequisite: Successful completion or skill ability equal to Ultra Youth 2.
