The Project

As global economies tumbled during the Great Depression, want proliferated—want of employment, want of security, want of escape. The desires born from want led to an explosion of creativity, including some of the most innovative shoe designs in Western fashion history. “WANT: Desire, Design and Depression Era Footwear” is a journey through the fashions, styles and materials of the time.
